GMail Invites

Poser July 21st, 2006

Just wanted to extend an offer to anyone interested: I have a ton of invites for you to be able to use Googles Email service, appropriately called GMail. With a Gmail account you can use some of the othe services offered by Google too, like their Calendar service and Picasa Web Album picture hosting service. [Though you maybe able to use them anyways with a Google account for their personalized home page, but just to be on the safe side, get a Gmail account anyways.] I know a lot of my friends are happy in their Y! (short for Yahoo!) mail bubbles, but I’m almost certain someone out there wants to try and/or use GMail. Just shoot an email over to chawposer[at]gmail.com, and send an invite your way. :)

Poser March 23rd, 2006

A while ago I found this site where you can totally customize your MySpace profile. I used Derek’s code as starting point to customize my own profile just that way I like. I’ve gotten a few messages about my profile and figured I’d make available the code for people to download and use themselves.

Microsoft Patch Now Up

Poser January 5th, 2006

So I just yesterday posted an entry telling you about the WMF vulerability with a link to the a third party patch, and today Microsoft has come out with an official windows update to the problem. So disregard all the stuff from yesterday and follow the link below to get your system patched and working properly. If you did happen to already download and use the Hotfix I linked to yesterday, you can uninstall that before updating with the Microsoft patch. You just need to go to Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel, and it will be listed under “Windows WMF vulnerability hotfix”.

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-001
Vulnerability in Graphics Rendering Engine Could Allow Remote Code Execution (912919)

Please Take Notice

Poser January 4th, 2006

Currently there is an un-fixed exploit in windows meta files that can allows certain files – such as .wmf, .jpg, .gif to name a few – to contain malicious code and be executed on your machine without permission. What this means is that if you were to view a vulnerable file type in Internet Exporer or Windows Explorer, all sorts of stuff can be installed on your computer and you get screwed with viruses, torjans, malware/spyware, and whatever else sucks to have happen to you. So thanks to Chromite for passing along the info, I want to forward you information to protect yourself.

First we have a few links talking about the WMF exploit. You’re welcome to read these articles and get an idea yourself on the severity of the situation.

Second we have a website where there is a temporary patch that you can install on your system to prevent your computer from being compromised by the exploit. The patch is safe and easy to install, and can just as easily be uninstalled when Microsoft comes out with an official patch.

Download WMF vulnerability hotfix – Choose one of the sites from the first list to download patch.
